Web Hosting

  • Highly Affordable

Cons:

  • Will leave you with a lot of free time

The first thing that every e-commerce entrepreneur should do is to find a reliable hosting provider to host their website. I learned it the hard way and the purpose of writing this review is that you know it first-hand, before you start work on your venture.

Here is my story about how I succeeded with my e-commerce venture by using Cloudways, a Reliable Magento Hosting Provider.

Why Choose Cloud?

In e-commerce business, traffic spikes are a norm. Most of my e-commerce stores receive traffic organically, so during the holiday season the traffic soars. This is a huge problem and VPS servers can’t handle this amount of traffic easily. So, for my latest e-commerce store, I tried cloud hosting from Cloudways. Why I chose a cloud hosting solution for Magento? Cloud hosts offer the auto-scaling feature.

I had two options, either to go with AWS hosting or choose a managed host. Since I didn’t have the time to set up the server on the cloud, I went with Cloudways. It offers one-click Magento install feature and my website was ready within 5 minutes.

Did it Help?

Yes. It definitely helped my store. Cloudways is a managed cloud hosting platform that offers cloud hosting from its partners including Digital Ocean, Linode, AWS, Google Cloud, and Vultr.

After signing up on the platform, you get a dashboard from where you can select the type of package that will suit your needs.

Once the package and cloud service is selected, you get the option to select an app to deploy. Cloudways has all essential apps one may need including WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Drupal, PHP Stack with Laravel, Prestashop, Joomla, Moodle, and many others.

I had to install Magento because I find it easier to customize to my will.

But take note. Installing Magento is not a piece of cake and one requires strong competency in Magento development to set up a store. But Cloudways did it all with just a single click. I installed a custom theme of my choice and the store was ready.

5 Minute Magento Installation on Cloudways

Here is how a routine Magento installation process works on Cloudways.

After creating an account on Cloudways, I selected AWS server, considering my requirements of the auto-scaling feature. On the next screen, I had a choice to choose either Magento or any other platform for installing on my server. I chose Magento.

Cloudways offered a simple point-and-click interface to choose specifics for server setup.

Usually, for an e-commerce store that’s just starting up, 2GB server storage is enough. I went with it because I always have the auto-scaling feature available.

Next was to choose a location. USA was a great fit for me because most of my customers are from USA.

Note: It is better to get a server that is near to your target market. It reduces latency and the website loads much faster.

That’s it. The server was up.

Free CDN Available

Once the site was up, I wanted a cloud delivery network (CDN) to improve page loading speed of the store. I didn’t know until this time that Cloudways had a free CDN option available and I was searching for Cloudflare. Cloudways Magento Hosting provider support representative told me that I could use a free CDN to improve page performance.

I could easily enable with a simple click.

Free HTTPS & SSL Certificate

Another thing that hooked me to Cloudways was the free HTTPS by let’s encrypt. Google now uses HTTPS as a ranking factor. So, for anyone who wants higher rankings in the SERPs, getting HTTPS is a must.

I easily added the SSL certificate by Let’s Encrypt on my website using Cloudways admin panel. The best part? It automatically renews.

Putting it to test

Well, I had the store, I had the hosting. Now what? Time to test the limits of the hosting service. Cloudways offers full page cache for all Magento 1 stores. So, I put that to test.

Here are the results before enabling the full page cache.

You can see that it took six seconds for the website to load.

Now, let’s enable full page cache on the store.

That’s only one second for page loading – a 5x speed improvement in website performance.

Essential Features for Magento Hosting

One thing that I liked the most about the Cloudways hosting platform is that it comes with a ton of exciting and usable features for its users.

One-Click Installation

While the process of setting up a server is cumbersome, with Cloudways you don’t have to worry about it. You get a dashboard with multiple selection options. You can install an app on a single click. In fact, if you are technically not savvy, Cloudways also offers you a step-by-step installation of each platform for efficient ecommerce store performance.

Transfer Server Option

Even if you are working for a client, Cloudways makes it easy for you to clone the server to a new account that they can privately access. This is a great feature for agencies serving their clients. They can easily transfer the server from your account to the client’s account or vice versa.

Free Trial for Everyone

Another aspect that impressed me was that Cloudways doesn’t ask you for upfront payment. You have three days to test its features through a trial account. It is perfect for Magento store owners who want to get the real feel. By testing, they will know the platform inside out. This can help them make a decision based on facts instead of regretting later if they made the wrong choice.

Note: Cloudways also offers a full refund for the amount depending on certain conditions. Please check out the Cloudways refund policy.

Optimized Server Stack

While cloud hosting is already faster than the rest. I was able to boost the performance of my store even further with it. Magento 2 now comes with an optimized platform stack that makes it a ready-to-go platform from the start. Almost 80% Magento users are still on Magento 1, and an un-optimized platform stack can literally kill its performance. That’s where the Cloudways ThunderStack takes it one level up with the performance boost.

Focus on Security

Data is the key to revenue. The more data a store has about its customers, the better it can optimize the website as per their needs. This will then translate to business growth and profit.

When I installed Magento, I needed an SSL certificate to keep information flow between by website and client secure. Since Cloudways already offers a Domain-level SSL for free, my search ended instantly.

Apart from the SSL certificate, Cloudways also offers dedicated firewalls, regular security patching and two-factor authentication of user account.

Pay As You Go Model

Unlike most hosting services that charge users on a monthly basis, Cloudways only asks for the resources that you use. This automatically cuts most of the server cost because the billing doesn’t include the unused resources.

Affiliate Program

Cloudways also offers a highly profitable affiliate program that lets users earn almost $6000 per month. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks promising because of the per slab increment.

Am I Happy With Cloudways?

You bet! I am experiencing the top-notch performance of my e-commerce store. This has significantly increased the average time per session and page load time.

Plus, it also offers a flexible auto-scaling option through some of its cloud partners. This means I am now ready to handle the traffic surge during the holiday season.

So now the big question. Should you get it?

The choice is yours to make. You can try this managed cloud hosting platform for a 3-day trial for free and experience the difference yourself.
